What you can do in My Account
Check your remaining minutes and data, see your plan details, update your mailing address (this matters: annual recertification letters go there, and a missed letter is the #1 reason free service gets cut), request a replacement device, and review your enrollment status. Some carriers also let you complete recertification directly from the account dashboard.
Locked out? The fix order
- Use "Forgot password" with the email or phone number you enrolled with, not a newer one.
- Check spam/junk for the reset email; resets often land there.
- Still nothing? Call 1-877-266-7212. Don't create a second account, which can flag your enrollment as a duplicate.
Common questions
What network does American Assistance use?
It depends which of their sites you enroll through, which is not a satisfying answer but it is the honest one. Their .com support page says service runs on the nationwide T-Mobile network. Their .net site says you need an unlocked AT&T-compatible phone. Both are official AMBT properties and both are live. If you are bringing your own handset, confirm on the phone before you enroll.
What states does American Assistance serve?
Federal Lifeline data shows the carrier active in 26 states plus Puerto Rico: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia. Their own availability page differs: it adds Massachusetts and New Jersey and leaves out Alabama and Oklahoma. One of their state pages disagrees with both. Use the ZIP check.
Does American Assistance give a free phone or just a SIM card?
Their .com pages advertise a free SIM kit with free shipping and no co-pay, not a handset. Their .net site says you get a free phone if you qualify and a free SIM if you do not, without publishing what decides it. Their terms confirm the two-track approach. Assume a SIM unless someone at the carrier tells you otherwise in writing.
What is the American Assistance phone number?
1-877-266-7212 for customer care, or *611 from your handset. The same number takes text messages, and they explicitly invite you to text eligibility documents to it, which is a real convenience if you have no scanner. There is also a toll-free fax on 1-877-211-3705 and a separate compliance hotline on 1-888-392-3001. They do not publish support hours anywhere.
Does American Assistance serve Tribal lands?
Their .net site states directly that AMBT does not offer service in Tribal areas, which is unusual: most Lifeline carriers promote the enhanced Tribal benefit. Confusingly the same site lists Bureau of Indian Affairs assistance, Tribal TANF and FDPIR among its qualifying programs. If you live on Tribal lands, ask before applying, and look at carriers that publish a Tribal plan.
Is American Assistance legit?
Yes. American Broadband and Telecommunications Company is an eligible telecommunications carrier with a real Ohio address in Maumee, an anonymous compliance hotline, a full Spanish-language site and a home and business division. Two cautions. Their .com site still says the Affordable Connectivity Program is suspended pending funding, and ACP ended in 2024. And americanassistance.us is a third-party enrollment agent, not the carrier, so check the domain before handing over documents.
