Does TruConnect give a free iPhone?

No. TruConnect does not ship iPhones under Lifeline, and you get a free Android smartphone instead. See our free government iPhone guide for the providers that do.

How to apply

  1. Apply online at truconnect.com. Outside California the National Verifier runs inline.
  2. California applicants: the application routes through the California LifeLine administrator, and a PIN letter arrives by mail to finish enrollment. The mailed PIN step is normal in CA, not a scam.
  3. Choose the free smartphone or BYOD SIM; hotspot data is included in most plans.

Why applications get stuck, and the fix

  • California application asks for a mailed PIN

    Cause: California LifeLine uses its own administrator with mail verification

    Fix: Wait for the PIN letter (1–2 weeks) and complete enrollment with it.

  • Approved in CA but no phone shipped

    Cause: CA enrollment completes only after the PIN step: approval alone doesn't trigger shipment

    Fix: Enter the PIN on the California LifeLine site or via TruConnect, then shipping starts.

  • Hotspot not working on the free plan

    Cause: Hotspot allocation is separate from the main data bucket

    Fix: Check the plan details in your account: hotspot data is capped; when exhausted it stops while regular data continues.

Does TruConnect give free phones in California?

Yes. TruConnect is one of the largest California LifeLine carriers. CA applications go through the state's own administrator with a mailed PIN step, and CA plans are richer than federal-only states.

Does the free TruConnect plan include hotspot?
